THE HEART BEHIND UAC

From Pain to Purpose

"I created Using Athletics to Cope in honor of my brother—a gifted athlete who never had the positive role model he needed. Despite his potential, he struggled with school, fell in with the wrong crowd, and was charged as an adult at just 17. He passed away in a house fire in 2018, never reaching his full potential. As I processed his life, I realized what he lacked: someone he could trust to guide him. That’s what I want to give other youth—especially those in low-income communities. Through mentorship and movement, we help young people build confidence, manage emotions, and find purpose. This isn’t just a program—it’s a promise that no child should face life’s challenges alone."

—Erica Warren, Founder & Executive Director
